Julie Katz, LCAT, RDT

(she/her)

Creative Arts Therapist & Primary Clinician

Julie has extensive experience providing individual and group therapy to children, adolescents, and adults in both intensive outpatient and outpatient clinical settings. As a skilled Drama and Creative Arts Therapist, as well as a behavioral clinician, she integrates Dialectical Behavior Therapy principles and artistic expression into her therapeutic approach. Julie is particularly passionate about Psychodrama and therapeutic improvisation—two dynamic, embodied forms of Drama Therapy—which she incorporates into her practice to facilitate deeper emotional exploration and healing.

As a Drama and Creative Arts Therapist, Julie integrates creative approaches that complement and enrich traditional talk therapy and behavioral interventions. She helps clients explore the various roles they play in their relationships, reexamine the narratives they hold about their experiences, and empowers them to become the protagonists of their own lives. Drawing on her background in acting, writing, and improvisation, Julie listens intently, paying close attention to the whole person. She aims to build strong relationships with clients, creating a space where they can engage in the tough—but rewarding—work of therapy, ultimately crafting healthier versions of their stories and themselves.

Julie is a thoughtful and compassionate therapist who is emotionally attuned to her clients, creating a comfortable environment while also challenging them to engage deeply in their therapeutic journey.

Outside of her work at CBH, Julie serves as an adjunct professor at New York University Stern School of Business, co-teaching Improvisation for Effective Leadership. She facilitates Drama Therapy groups at Breaking Ground’s supportive housing units, where she creates therapeutic theater pieces with previously unhoused individuals. She also supervises Drama Therapy students at her alma mater, offering guidance and support during their clinical practice internships.
