Individual Treatment

Addiction treatment and treatment for those who want to decrease use of substances or engaging in a problematic behavior

Addiction treatment expands beyond the use, misuse or abuse of substances and can include problematic relationships with food, sex, spending or gambling. At CBH, we approach exploring one’s relationship with substances or a particular behavior with openness and an understanding that everyone is at a different stage in their process and has different goals.

Treatment may consist of a combination of individual and group psychotherapy. After an initial assessment, therapist and client together will develop a treatment plan – always operating from a perspective that treatment is collaborative and that the therapist and client function as a unified team. Recommendations are given for frequency of treatment and treatment modality. At City Behavioral Health, we approach addiction treatment from a highly individualized lens with an emphasis on behavioral methods to promote attainable and sustained treatment outcomes.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy [DBT] is an evidenced based treatment for individuals who struggle to regulate their emotions. Treatment involves a combination of structured individual therapy and the simultaneous acquisition of skills through either a skills group or individual skills training. The client learns how to utilize and integrate specific skills to effectively handle intense and distressing emotional states and situations. DBT is shown to be particularly effective for people who struggle to tolerate distress, have interpersonal difficulties and those who have been diagnosed with a range of mental health diagnoses. While initially developed for the treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder, research has shown DBT to be effective in treating the following: suicidal ideation, self-harming, substance use disorders, eating disorders and mood disorders [depression, anxiety and bipolar I & II].

At City Behavioral Health, fully adherent and comprehensive DBT treatment is offered. Comprehensive DBT consists of four components: Individual DBT, DBT Skills Group, Phone Coaching and the clinician is a part of a DBT consultation team.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy [CBT] places focus on changing maladaptive thought patterns that hinder one’s ability to achieve their goals. A CBT approach aims to target the negative core beliefs and corrects such beliefs by integrating healthier patterns of thinking. Altering and re-structuring such thinking helps to achieve goals and develop healthier relationships.

Exposure Response Prevention for OCD

Exposure Response Prevention [ERP] is an evidence based behavioral treatment for obsessive compulsive disorder or for those that struggle with symptoms of OCD. Through exposure exercises and acquiring skills for managing distress, clients often see a reduction in symptoms.

Integrative, Supportive Psychotherapy

An integrative approach is utilized to help clients with a broader range of challenges they wish to address including but not limited to: mental health issues, life transitions, relationship challenges, stressful life events, trauma and grief and loss. Therapy focuses on providing meaningful ongoing support while utilizing an integration of behavioral and relational interventions.
